Throne of Blood (Dir. Akira Kurosawa, Japan, 1957)
February 17, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm CST
FreeTransposed from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Throne of Blood takes place in feudal Japan with stylistic elements drawn from Noh drama. American literary critic Harold Bloom praised it as being “the most successful film version of Macbeth.”
Alternative Shakespeares comprises a series of eight film screenings and discussions that highlight the diversity of Shakespearean representations on film. Providing a forum for thought and conversation about Shakespeare in adaptation, this screening will feature an introduction and discussion led by Daniel Humphrey, Associate Professor, Film Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies, Texas A&M University.
This event is made possible through the generous support of the Texas A&M Department of English and the University Libraries.
