First Folio Teaches Teachers Workshops

February 20, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm CST

Free

Through discussion and hands-on activities, teachers will explore what makes the First Folio worth teaching and studying, and gain a set of strategies for connecting students directly with this volume.

Likewise, teachers will practice classroom activities that bring students closer to Shakespeare and printing history including:

  • Folding Folio sheets
  • Comparing Quarto and Folio versions of the same scene
  • Questioning language choices
  • Performing textual variants in groups

After this will follow an introduction to interactive techniques designed to connect all kinds of students with Shakespeare’s language. Teachers will learn pre-reading and reading strategies that draw on performance and scholarship to engage students with Shakespeare’s texts.

At the conclusion of the 4-hour workshop, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the collections and exhibitions of Cushing Memorial Library & Archives, the special collections library on the campus of Texas A&M University, and learn more about the resources available.

Lunch included. Registration for this event is now closed.

This event is made possible through the generous support of the Texas A&M College of Education.
